So this post is about the build up to the audition. Obviously there is quite a lot of preparation to do before the day itself. However, this doesn't mean you're not going to get in. I don't even know the outcome yet! Hopefully that is what is going to be helpful during this post for you!
For the NYT I have been asked to choose a monologue from a play, learn it and have it ready to perform during your audition slot! I have chosen a piece from an adaptation of the book into script form- Across the Barricades. Thankfully I have a drama teacher to help me choose my piece but if you don't- never worry!
There are many books full of speeches to use. I recommend learning a piece which suits you. If you're a girl- choose a piece for a female of your age. If you are 15 don't play a character who is 43. You need to be able to relate with your character- it's vital as it allows ou to perform your piece truly!
Everything else from then on has been plain sailing (fingers crossed). You have to learn the piece, practice and keep calm. You are sent the details of when to arrive so don't be late! At NYT there is a workshop before the singular audition. You get to meet people around your age who share a passion with you!
So now I just have to keep calm and carry on until Saturday. I'll keep you updated!
